Anti-Clinton PAC hiding its connection to Edwards campaign

Hurowitz, who is forming a PAC to swiftboat Clinton in early primary states, is obviously a liar. His connection with Edwards is now uncovered.

This is what he said yesterday per politico.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/

Hurowitz and Goldman have both contributed to the campaign of former North Carolina Senator John Edwards, but Hurowitz said their effort is independent of any campaign.

"We have no plans right now to back any particular candidate," Hurowitz said.

The American Prospect has dug out some stuff.

NEW ANTI-HILLARY PAC PRESIDENT PREVIOUSLY ENDORSED EDWARDS, ACCORDING TO EDWARDS RELEASE

New anti-Hillary Clinton PAC president Glenn Hurowitz of DemocraticCourage.com has previously endorsed Clinton rival John Edwards for president, according to an October 14 press release from the Edwards campaign.

On the morning of Oct. 14, the Edwards campaign sent out a press release headlined "EDWARDS WINS ENDORSEMENT FROM FRIENDS OF THE EARTH ACTION." Following news of that endorsement, the release read:

...
Lance Holter, Board Member of HI Sierra Club, Chair of Maui Sierra Club Chapter*
Glen Hurowitz, Principal of Democratic Courage
Jared Duval, Writer, Former National Director of Sierra Student Coalition*

Here's the juicy part...

Hurowitz's name is not listed on a truncated version of the press release currently on the John Edwards for President web site, however a copy of the release posted on Oct. 15 on the Democratic Talk Radio Blog listing Hurowitz among the "National Environmentalists for Edwards Leaders" remains available online. I also have a copy of the original press release with Hurowitz's (misspelled) name on it in my e-mail inbox.

Edwards campaign and his guy obviously believe they can hide the connection and coordination since his name was 'truncated'.

Sleazy and desperate move. It appears Edwards and this PAC have crossed a fine line, we hope some people will dig out every bit information, personally, professionally about these folks, everything.

When they cross the line, they need to pay a heavy heavy price. I wouldn't mind a jail time of 30 years for these guys if laws are broken.

Another reminder of the despicable attack ad against Dean made by a so-called 'independent' PAC. Edwards campaign needs to answer the question what is the real connection between this new anti-Hillary PAC and his campaign. Update [2007-10-25 10:33:30 by areyouready]: http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/
Edwards and stopping Hillary Glenn Hurowitz, who is running the liberal stop-Hillary PAC, volunteered to me yesterday that he'd contributed to John Edwards, but said his group won't support a candidate. Garance Franke-Ruta also noticed that Hurowitz has actually formally endorsed Edwards, in his role as "influential environmental leader." The group's argument that Hillary isn't a true progressive, and won't build a progressive movement, dovetails nicely with Edwards' message. We won't be able to see until January who's funding the group, and the extent to which it engages Edwards' base of support among trial lawyers. ALSO: A more directly pro-Edwards independent message is this radio spot from Friends of the Earth Action.

You're an idiot (2.00 / 2)

The ad you posted is not affiliated with Hurowitz or Edwards.

Is it your position that an American Citizen cannot endorse?  Do you have proof of a connection between the activities of this PAC and the Edwards campaign beyond the fact that one of its folks endorsed Edwards?

Hell, I endorsed Edwards, am I therefore breaking the law by pointing out that you are, in every sense of the word, a lowlife?

Re: Anti-Clinton PAC hiding its connection to Edwa (2.00 / 1)

Ok, this guy is an Edwards supporter. You have fallen far short of proving that this PAC has endorsed Edwards. You have also failed to show that they will or have coordinated their actions with the campaign.

Find some more proof or take this post down, you don't have anything.

Interesting how reactions can differ from one blog to another. A plea for funding was posted to dailykos -- not an enthusiastic response. As far as I can tell, a good number of ppl commenting are not Clinton supporters.

p.s. BlueDiamond, you can find a link to the PAC there as well ;-)

Edwards campaign (1.00 / 1)

Funny how outraged you are at this and not at Hillary's link to Murdoch's news corporations.  Especially considering that Murdoch's outlets like FOX News and the NY Post tear down the Democratic brand every day.

I hope they swiftboat her hard.

I think they are cowards and I also think that those behind HillaryIs44 are also cowards.

Equally.

Re: Edwards campaign (2.00 / 1)

Oh, and NO. We come out in the open and criticize her. There's no need to hide it. She is wrong for America and she's wrong for Democrats. That's not something that has to be kept secret and people should have the courage to do it openly. There is no Obama operated Anti-Hillary PAC. There's a lot of OPEN criticism. But no secret wussie stuff that I know of.

Democrats should swiftboat Republicans (1.00 / 1)

Any below the belt attacks on other Democrats should be looked down upon by true blue Democrats.

Re: Anti-Clinton PAC hiding its connection to Edwa (2.00 / 2)

There is as much connection between this PAC and the Dean/Osama ad as there is between Howard Dean and Osama bin Laden.

Which makes the attempt to use this ad to slime the PAC - now, for the second day in a row - just as worthy of condemnation.

It's really strange how freaked out the diarist is by the fact that someone is going to criticize Hillary.  They're "scumbags" who must be "destroyed."  And they haven't even said anything yet.  Very strange mentality this diarist has.

Democratic Courage Hasn't Endorsed Anyone (2.00 / 2)

Just to be clear, Democratic Courage has not endorsed any candidate and we welcome support from backers of any candidate. I personally was proud to contribute to John Edwards. We'd appreciate any support at https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/en tity/18467

Thanks!

This is all bullshit. (2.00 / 1)

How can anyone be seriously shocked at this?

Guess what?  If she is the candidate we will have to work harder than hard to debunk anything about her and her husband, even if the shit is true.

Seriously, why are shocked at this?  Did you expect her to be annointed the nomination?  There is a large fraction of the democratic party that have serious issues about Clinton.

If she has nothing to hide, then hey, don't worry about it.  But repeatedly putting this bullshit up on this site from Hillaryis44 is just pathetic.

Can't you do your own research?  Or due diligence to write a story?  Obviously not.

And finally Hillary hiring 100 staffers for Iowa.  She better, she is not doing well here from internal polling.  She is not.  I am here in Iowa on the ground and that Rural Luncheon on Tuesday, folks are hotter than hot about that with her.

You guys thought lobbyists don't matter?  It does to these good folk in Iowa.  She has a hell of a lot of work, to do.

lol. yeah, more internal polling...

Hillary: We will finally have a president who doesn't mind pulling over and asking for directions. Am I right, ladies?

Yeah, iamready, we have seen YOUR internal polling come to fruition so far.  Since you work for the campaign you HAVE to put a happy face on it, no doubt.   But the reality looks different.

hypocrites! (1.50 / 2)

from what i rmemebr, the swift boat vets for truth, were just supporters of BushCo. too, no real connection. and all you guys were so against it! why is it different now?

edwards is the mitt romney of the democratic party! a panderer and a flip flopper!

by boxer4hrc on Thu Oct 25, 2007 at 02:36:53 PM EST

Re: hypocrites! (none / 0)

Well, there was a real connection.  But more to the point, it was an issue because of what the swiftboaters ACTUALLY SAID - that John Kerry lied about his service, that he didn't deserve his medals.

This group hasn't said a single thing yet and they're already being branded as swiftboaters.  That's ridiculous.

This isn't a serious effort (none / 0)

A serious effort to run attack ads against Clinton would not be adverstising its plans. This is obviously an amateur effort.
